Israa wal Miraaj (Night Journey & Ascension)

It was on the night journey  and ascension of the Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) (called al Israa wal Miraaj) that the five daily obligatory prayers were legislated
(approximately 1-5 years before the Hijrah).1

The Prophet (sallAllahu alayhim wa sallam) was taken to Bayt al Maqdis (Masjid al Aqsa, in Jerusalem) and then up to the heavens where he encountered several previous prophets.
